BIOGRAPHY

Brian Chinn—known formerly under the name Warm Gun—is a Korean-born & Seattle-raised singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, engineer, and designer who has evolved from a behind-the-scenes visionary into a passionate solo artist. At times sparse and at other times thick with sonic layers, his sound is a dynamic blend of RnB, pop, and ‘other’ that contrasts heavy production with infectious melodies.

As an adolescent influenced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and B.B. King, Chinn honed his performance chops and ear for composition as a member of several rock bands—eventually shifting towards more independent creative methods. Determined to build career foundations in the music industry, Chinn connected with like-minded Seattle artists like Dave B and Raz Simone, while simultaneously pursuing an Industrial Design degree at the University of Washington. After graduating, he expanded his collaborative production work among artists like Sango, Parisalexa, and DJs Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike.

Brian’s experience on the road began at SXSW ‘15, alongside Raz Simone. Here, he learned the fundamentals of high-intensity performance schedules, industry networking, and overcoming the physical and mental stresses this lifestyle brings. Continued solo and collaborative performances across the US—including opening for Macklemore’s 2016 This Unruly Mess I’ve Made tour—have helped hone Brian’s endurance and focus as he sets his sights on stages in his new hometown of New York City.

Since moving to New York City during the summer of 2016, Brian has been focused on refining his sound and artistic identity. Through minimalistic visual branding and bold, color-heavy photos and videos, Brian continues the contrast of busy and spacious heard in his music. With a series of single releases, video content, and events aligned for the rest of 2021, Chinn is aiming to stake his claim—not only through technical finesse, but through an interdisciplinary eye and a genuine love for the creative process.

Upcoming Release: Oregon Trail

With an undeniable bounce and twang-heavy guitars, Brian Chinn’s forthcoming single “Oregon Trail” is an ode to the interstate. Its wide-open production reflects the vastness of the I-5 corridor; where it’s easy to lose track of time and space—and where reality sets in when it’s 2AM and you’re almost on empty, just outside of Eugene. If you know, you know.

From the opposite side of the States, Brian is joined by DC-to-LA artist, Arcade Droyd. His extended second verse adds depth and weight to the record, creating some of its highest highs and lowest lows, sonically speaking.

After a brief guitar interlude, “Oregon Trail” downshifts to a dreamy, down-tempo outro with vocal layers from frequent collaborator, DEVYN. This journey of styles and voices points to a crossroads of Hip-hop, Pop, RnB, and Alternative.

For fans of: Don Toliver, Baby Keem, SAINt JHN, Jazz Cartier, Aminé, Young Thug, Gashi, August 08.
